Foxes inch closer to Ward transfer

Leicester City have agreed a fee with Liverpool for the transfer of goalkeeper Danny Ward. The Welsh keeper, No.3 at the Reds behind Lorius Karius and Simon Mignolet, will now discuss personal terms with Leicester after the Foxes agreed a £10m fee for the Reds.

It remains to be seen whether Leicester see Ward as a potential replacement for Kasper Schmeichel, who has been linked with moves to Chelsea and Roma, or as a backup option for the Danish international.

Liverpool are themselves close to signing Roma’s Alisson Becker.

Ward signed for Liverpool in 2012 but has only made 3 first team appearances for the Reds.

First defeat for Jordan Henderson in England shirt in 31 games

It was heartbreak for Jordan Henderson and England, but delight for Dejan Lovren and Croatia as the Vatreni beat the Three Lions to advance to a final showdown against France.

Henderson played 97 minutes of this game before being replaced by Eric Dier. Lovren played the full 120 minutes as Croatia reached the final- his second major final this year after the Champions League with Liverpool.

This was also the first time in 31 games that Henderson had suffered defeat in an England jersey. The Three Lions went ahead through Trippier (5), but lost as Croatia scored through Perisic (68) and Mandzukic (109)

Trent Alexander Arnold was an unused substitute.

Liverpool’s Simon Mignolet was also an unused sub as Belgium lost 1-0 in their World Cup semifinal to France.

However the young German’s confidence looks visibly shot- is he in the right frame of mind to start for Liverpool next season? Judging by this howler in pre-season against Tranmere, the answer would perhaps be no. Should Klopp start looking for another keeper? The Liverpool gaffer defended Karius after the game, but at this moment, not all fans feel that the latter has overcome his mental demons. The Reds have a massive fan base, which also means that Karius will be subject to greater levels of scrutiny than, say, back in his native Germany. Continue reading
