The January transfer window is a typically cautious market, with few clubs looking to splash the cash, with selling clubs unwilling to release their star names.

Yet there can, after all, be expections… the fear of a free transfer.

Star names from the Premier League, Bundesliga and La Liga are set to leave their clubs next summer for nothing unless new terms can be agreed, and the temptation to sell for a cut-price fee can prove an option too attractive to turn down.
