Liverpool winger Assaidi looking to continue development

Liverpool winger Oussama Assaidi is hoping to continue his development and break into the Reds’ first team on a consistent basis.

The 24-year-old hopes that the fans at Anfield will see more of him taking on defenders down the wing, which won over plenty of supporters since his debut back in September, and has hailed the way manager Brendan Rodgers wants the side to play.

“Every day I am learning about how to be better,” he told the club’s official website. “I want to be better. I go to the gym to make myself stronger.

“My quality is to take on defenders, get a cross in, cut inside and shoot. I like to create action and to make a cross. That’s how I play – I take defenders on. I hope the fans see more from me.

“The manager’s training is very good. He works a lot with the ball and on positioning. I like the way he thinks about football. He wants to play football with a 4-3-3 formation and use wingers, which is good for me.

“The manager gives me advice. He tells me that when the ball is on the right I must go inside and that I must go with my full-back when he goes forward.

“He gives us great training sessions and I learn a lot from his training. I think he is a good coach for Liverpool.”

The former Heerenveen man was Rodgers’ third signing this summer, and has admitted that it is a difficult challenge to live in a foreign country.

The Morocco international has insisted, though, that the staff – and particularly captain Steven Gerrard as well as Nuri Sahin and Luis Suarez – have helped him settle in Merseyside.

“I am settling in,” he added. “It is very difficult to be in a new country without family.

“But when I arrived everyone took me into the team. I speak to Nuri Sahin a lot and Luis Suarez. But I also speak with all the players.

“Steven Gerrard has helped me settle as well and it’s nice to be here – it’s going well, I think.

“It’s nice to play with the likes of Gerrard and Suarez. You can see on the training ground that they have quality but every player here has quality. If you don’t have quality then you don’t play for Liverpool.”
