Hearts fined £4,000 by Uefa after ‘pitch invasion’ against Liverpool

Hearts have been fined €5,000 [£4,000] by Uefa after a section of their supporters invaded the pitch after taking the lead against Liverpool in their Europa League play-off second-leg tie.

David Templeton’s 85th-minute strike pulled the SPL side level on aggregate, leading to a number of fans jumping out of the stands and on to the pitch, only for Luis Suarez to restore the English outfit’s lead just minutes later and eliminating Hearts from the competition.

And Uefa have now issued the club a fine in the hope to prevent future pitch invasions.

A statement read: “Heart of Midlothian FC have been fined €5,000 by the Uefa Control and Disciplinary Body for ‘pitch invasion by supporters’ at last month’s Uefa Europa League play-off second-leg match at Anfield Road between Liverpool FC and the Scottish club.”
