Betting: Could defence be the best form of attack in the Premier League?

Paddy Power will refund losing first goalscorer, last goalscorer, correct score and scorecast bets if the match ends as a draw.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi stole the headlines again in the Champions League this week but with a jam-packed weekend of Premier League action there could be some more unlikely heroes.

Leighton Baines was on target on Monday night against Newcastle as Everton found plenty of joy down the left-hand side. Many pundits have heralded Baines and Steven Pienaar as the best attacking combination in the league down that flank and Baines is no stranger to finding the back of the net.

The England international is 12/1 (13.0) to open the scoring against Swansea on Saturday and make it two for the week. He scored five times last season, seven the year before, and his success from set-pieces make him an appealing 9/2 (5.50) to score anytime.

In one of the tastiest fixtures of the weekend, Manchester United travel to Anfield where they have not won in the league since 2007.

Daniel Agger opened the scoring for Liverpool here in last year’s FA Cup match and he is 33/1 (34.0) to find the net first on Sunday.

Liverpool have looked threatening from set pieces this season with Martin Skrtel scoring against Manchester City in August and could find more joy against United. Agger is a massive presence in the air and the 12/1 (13.0) that he scores anytime looks like some tasty value.

The last three games between Arsenal and Manchester City have ended 1-0 and many are expecting a similarly cagey game this weekend. It could be that the winner comes from a thumping header and both Vincent Kompany and Thomas Vermaelen are known for their attacking threat.

City captain Kompany is 25/1 (26.0) to open the scoring with Gunners star Vermaelen 22/1 (23.0) to find the net first.

Paddy Power is refunding losing first goalscorer and last goalscorer bets on Manchester City v Arsenal and Liverpool v Manchester United if that match ends in a draw, during a weekend where defence could prove to be the best form of attack.
