MARTIN JOL has launched a blistering attack on Liverpool — calling the Reds an
‘embarrassment’.
Jol is furious that Brendan Rodgers is yet to bid for Clint Dempsey despite
publicly declaring an interest.
The Craven Cottage boss claims Dempsey’s head has been turned and he has now
left him out of the squad to face Norwich.
He fumed: “Clint told everyone he was going to Liverpool before he came back
so we really thought there was quite a firm interest in him.
“Even Rodgers told everyone he was interested in Clint, but our people never
had an offer. It’s almost embarrassing.
“If you have shown interest in a player, you have to follow it up with an
offer.”
Dempsey, 29, demanded a switch to Liverpool to fulfil his dream of playing in
Europe — but Jol insists Fulham will only sell if the deal suits
them.
He added: “We’ve got a chairman who’s quite strong and if we get the right
price we will sell him. If not, he’ll stay here.
“I would like to keep him but I think it’s impossible because he wants to
move.
“Clint told me he wants to go to a Champions League club.
“I’m not sure if Liverpool is in the Champions League but if you look at the
size of Liverpool, it’s like a Champions League club.
“We’ll have to wait and see what happens, but for us it’s a sad situation and
embarrassing.”
Jol was also on the warpath because Moussa Dembele’s agent claimed Real Madrid
wanted the Fulham ace.
The Dutchman added: “I spoke to his agent and I told him it wasn’t the
cleverest thing to do.
“There was one very low bid from a Premier League club, but hopefully Dembele
will stay here.”
