Liverpool continued their away resurgence as they beat Southampton 2-0 at St.Mary’s to go sixth in the Premiership, overtaking Spurs and narrowing the gap between themselves and Ronald Koeman’s side.
Philippe Coutinho’s great strike on 3 minutes and Raheem Sterling’s effort 70 minutes later sealed the deal for the Reds, who once again produced a great defensive performance. They have now not conceded an away goal since December (when they played Man Utd) at Old Trafford Continue reading
Not quite the 8-0 thrashing that happened last time, but Liverpool got the result they wanted by beating Besiktas. Slight controversy towards the end, with Henderson, Sturridge and Balotelli all wanting to take the spot kick. Balotelli eventually took it. Continue reading
Besiktas won’t remember their last trip to Anfield too fondly, and it’s not without reason. Liverpool crushed them 8-0 that day, with Yossi Benayoun and Ryan Babel (remember him!) producing five goals between them. Steven Gerrard and Peter Crouch also scored for the Reds.
That game was in the Champions League through. LFC and Besiktas are today competing in the next level of European competition- the Europa League. Continue reading
