Preston 1-2 Liverpool: Lambert starts but Can limps off in comeback win

Emre Can last just 20 minutes of his Liverpool debut after limping off with a calf injury as Preston were beaten 2-1 at Deepdale on Saturday.

The new £10 million signing appeared to strain a muscle with no challenge causing the injury and promptly left the field for further treatment before Josh Brownhill put the League One side ahead in first-half stoppage time.

Suso then equalised 20 minutes from time after collecting a pass from Can’s replacement, Jordan Ibe, and Kris Peterson went the Premier League side ahead four minutes later.

Ljajic ‘will remain at Roma’

The 22-year-old forward’s agent has dismissed rumours that the Serbia international may leave the Giallorossi this summer but has confirmed there has been interest

Adem Ljajic will not be leaving Roma during the transfer window, according to his agent Fali Ramadani.

The attacking midfielder scored six goals in 28 Serie A appearances for the Lupi last term as his side went on to finish second behind champions Juventus.

Roma have recently confirmed the acquisition of Juan Iturbe from Hellas Verona but Ljajic’s representative insisted that his client will not be forced out, despite the €22 million arrival.

“I can assure everyone that Ljajic will remain at Roma,” Ramadani told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“There is no intention from the player to leave the club. I have said it for some time and I continue to say it.

“The rumours that he will leave have absolutely no foundation.”

Ljajic joined the Giallorossi from Fiorentina last August and, though it appears that some offers may have been made for his services, there has been no encouragement for teams chasing his signature.

“We have received offers for him but we have not taken them into consideration,” Ramadani continued.

“They remain where they are.”

Liverpool and Schalke have been linked with the 22-year-old.

Liverpool set to table improved Bony bid

The Reds are continuing to rebuild following the exit of Luis Suarez and are keen to land the Ivory Coast international, who has also interested Tottenham, this summer

By Paul Clennam

Liverpool are ready to table an improved offer for Swansea striker Wilfried Bony as they continue to reshape their squad ahead of the 2014-15 season, Goal understands.

Swansea are determined to maximise any potential fee for Bony and are looking to get around €24 million [£19m] for the star from Liverpool, who have money to spend having agreed a deal to sell Luis Suarez to Barcelona for €95m [£75m].

Goal understands Liverpool have so far offered €16m [£12.5m] for the Ivory Coast international, but are now ready to raise it to €19m [£15m], plus significant add-ons.

Bony, who scored two goals at the World Cup in addition to his 26 club goals for 2013-14, has also attracted interest from Tottenham, and the north Londoners remain interested in acquiring the 25-year-old.

Swansea are aware of the interest from the two clubs and are open to a sale, having signed Bafetimbi Gomis from Lyon, but are intent on not letting him go on the cheap.

In addition to Gomis, the Welsh club also have forwards Marvin Emnes and Rory Donnelly on their books and have been linked with a €6m [£5m] move for Watford striker Troy Deeney.

Liverpool still have money to spend and have already signed four players, with Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert, Emre Can and Lazar Markovic all moving to Anfield in this close-season as the club seek to rebuild following the departure of Suarez.
