Suarez could bite again, fears Liverpool legend Hansen

The former Reds skipper believes the striker will be given one last chance to salvage his reputation by the Anfield club but feels there is every chance he could offend again

Liverpool legend Alan Hansen fears Luis Suarez could bite again unless he seeks professional psychological help.

The Uruguay international was banned for four months from “all football activity” and suspended for nine international matches by Fifa following the bite on Giorgio Chiellini which effectively ended Suarez’s involvement at the World Cup.

Should Suarez serve his ban in full he will have missed at least 32 matches for his club through suspension in the last two-and-a-half seasons.

Despite that astonishing record, former Liverpool skipper Hansen believes Suarez will be granted one last chance to change his ways by the Anfield club, but feels there is every chance the 27-year-old will fall foul of his suspect temperament again.

He told the BBC: “The worrying thing for Liverpool was that there was no provocation the same as with [Branislav] Ivanovic. Will he do it again [will be a concern]? From a Liverpool perspective they have to draw a line under it and say one more incident and it’s all over.

“If you’ve got the talent and ability that Suarez has got then everyone will be wanting him. I think it’s sad for football and Suarez. After the Ivanovic incident he won the hearts and minds of everyone in the UK by the way he played on the pitch. He was absolutely sensational – we thought this behaviour had ended but here we go again.

“The worrying thing is he might do it again at any conceivable time. You can sort of understand it if people are elbowing him. You’d imagine so [that he’d seek help].”
