The forward says the pair “both love a dribble’ and are more like the Barcelona star in style rather than Cristiano Ronaldo

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero claims he and Luis Suarez are the “two Messis” of the Premier League.

The Argentine is a big fan of Barcelona forward Lionel as well as Suarez, whose Liverpool side are fighting it out with City in one of the most intriguing title battles in the history of England’s top flight.

Aguero and Suarez have been dubbed the ‘(Cristiano) Ronaldo and Messi’ of the division but the former Atletico Madrid star prefers a comparison with his compatriot.

He told FourFourTwo: “I’d say instead of Messi and Ronaldo… (we are the) two Messis!
“We’re both Messi. I mean, I have to be him because I’m Argentine, but Luis is also South American and loves a dribble so why can’t we both be him?”

Aguero is hoping Messi can inspire Argentina to World Cup glory in neighbouring Brazil this summer.

“He’s spectacular and just makes football so much easier. To play alongside the best player in the world is a privilege,” he added.

“He solves problems on the pitch like few others can even think about, so he can be a big part of winning the World Cup.”

It promises to be an exciting few months for Aguero as he chases silverware both domestically and on the international front.

The 25-year-old is refusing to prioritise, though, and denies there is extra emphasis on the World Cup due to it being staged in his native South America.

“First of all, I want to finish this season well with City and to be in good physical shape for Brazil,” he said.

“Basically, I want to win everything.

“I wouldn’t say it’s necessarily that special that it’s in South America, because Brazil are always our big rivals. But playing in a World Cup is beautiful enough; you have to take advantage of it when it arrives.”

Suarez, meanwhile, has reiterated his happiness at Liverpool as he approaches the conclusion of what he describes as the best season of his career.

The former Ajax striker has been in blistering form as the Merseysiders have emerged as surprise Premier League title contenders under Brendan Rodgers.

Suarez’s goals have been instrumental in Liverpool’s resurgence and he admits he is enjoying this season like no other.

Asked if it was the best of his career, he replied: “I think so. I feel in a very good place, physically and mentally.

“Every day, I feel better in this club and hope to continue down this path because we want Champions League football for Liverpool and, personally speaking, I want to continue that mentality throughout the World Cup with Uruguay.”

Suarez’s time at Anfield has been blighted by controversy. In 2011 he was banned for eight games for racially abusing Manchester United defender Patrice Evra and last season was suspended for 10 matches for biting Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic.

It would be easy to claim his feats this year are his way of atoning for those misdemeanours but Suarez believes it is more easily explained as a culmination of several factors.

Asked if it had been a season of redemption, he said: “Maybe, but it’s also been a perfect time for me.

“I’m 27, at my peak. I’m in a good place.”
