Coates wants to leave Liverpool for Nacional

The Uruguay international is keen to complete his recovery from knee surgery in his homeland but warned that a potential deal may take some time to complete

Liverpool defender Sebastian Coates has revealed he is keen to leave Anfield for a return to South America with Nacional.

The 23-year-old is currently sidelined after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament in a friendly for Uruguay against Japan in August.

Coates has been linked with a loan move back to his former side and says he is keen to return to his homeland and is hopeful of securing a transfer.

“It would be beautiful to join Nacional and complete my recovery in Uruguay with my family and friends,” the centre-back told Radio El Espectador 810.

“The negotiations can be hard sometimes, and we have to wait a bit.”

The Uruguay international moved to Anfield from Nacional in 2011 but has made just 24 appearances for the club during his time on Merseyside.

Premier League Team of the Week: Hat-trick hero Eto’o joined by Cazorla & Cabaye

In goal, Vito Mannone (3.5), who has been linked with a move to Manchester United, is given the nod. The Sunderland goalkeeper picked up Goal’s player of the match award as he kept the hosts in the game with some smart saves in the 2-2 draw with Southampton.
The ever-marauding Kyle Walker (3.5) is our pick at right-back. The England full-back was a constant outlet on the right-hand flank and was solid enough defending his own goal as Tottenham came away from Swansea with a 3-1 win.

At left-back, Cesar Azpilicueta (3.5) is selected as he was recalled to the starting XI by Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, putting in a solid shift to largely keep Antonio Valencia quiet in his side’s 3-1 triumph over Manchester United on Sunday.

Goal’s centre-back partnership sees Gary Cahill (3.5), who defended solidly against Manchester United and had a hand in one of Samuel Eto’o’s three goals, is joined by Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny (3.5). Another assured performance from the Frenchman helped the Gunners defeat Fulham 2-0 on Saturday.

There was plenty of competition for a midfield place in Goal’s team, with the likes of David Silva, Moussa Sissoko, Ramires and Christian Eriksen all narrowly missing out on a place.

But Yohan Cabaye (4.5), who scored two goals as Newcastle brushed West Ham aside at Upton Park, is a certain pick, while Yaya Toure (4), who grabbed a goal and assist in Manchester City’s 4-2 triumph over Cardiff City, joins him.

Santi Cazorla (4) also earns a place and completes our midfield trio after he twice found the back of the net in the second half to ensure Arsenal secured a 2-0 win over Fulham and preserved their position at the top of the table.

In attack, Samuel Eto’o‘s (3.5) hat-trick heroics at Stamford Bridge see him claim one of the three positions, while Emmanuel Adebayor (4), who continued his impressive run of form by scoring twice again Swansea, and Edin Dzeko (4) are also selected.

Liverpool must defend better as a team, insists Henderson

The Reds midfielder says that everyone, not just the back four and goalkeeper, need to defend better if they are to push for silverware this season

Jordan Henderson has called on his Liverpool team-mates to help improve the team’s defending after Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Aston Villa.

The Reds have conceded 28 goals in the Premier League this season, the highest of any side in the top seven, although they have balanced their goal difference by scoring 53 times.

Liverpool are fourth in the Premier League, eight points behind leaders Arsenal, and Henderson believes that to push for the title they need to defend from front to back.

“We have to defend better as a team,” the England international told the Liverpool Echo. “It’s not just about the back four and the ‘keeper, it’s the whole team. I’m sure that’s something we will work on.

“When we changed the formation we dealt with things better and got ourselves back in the game. Having got back to 2-2 with over half an hour left, we wanted to kick on and find a winner but we just couldn’t get it.

“Credit to Villa as they came with a game plan and their tactics in the first 20 to 30 minutes were working. We found it difficult to play and weren’t at our best.

“They played a diamond formation with Weimann in behind me and Stevie. They had a lot of bodies in and around the middle for the flick-ons off Benteke. It was difficult to cope with at times.

“We’re disappointed. We set such high expectations here. We want to go into every game and win it. Unfortunately, we couldn’t do that but the good thing is from 2-0 down we showed our character and our fight.

“We showed that we didn’t want to be beaten. Villa beat us 3-1 here last season and we were beaten away to Stoke last season. If you look at it that way then it’s an improvement.”
