The Blaugrana youth academy holds the Catalan club in the highest esteem, but is keen to stress that he is loving life at Napoli, where he is currently on loan from Liverpool
Jose Reina has admitted that he would be happy to rejoin Barcelona but says he is not making any “assumptions” about his future.
The Spain international is currently on loan to Napoli from Liverpool but his fine form for the Partenopei, coupled with Victor Valdes’ decision to leave the Blaugrana at the end of the season, has prompted intense speculation regarding a return to Camp Nou.
However, Reina, who came through the Catalan club’s youth team ranks, says that nothing has yet been decided as of yet.
“Anyone lucky enough to play for Barca during their career should feel privileged,” the 31-year-old shot-stopper told Mundo Deportivo.
“I had the good fortune of being able to play there and spent many happy years there. So, I would be happy to return, but it’s difficult to make any assumptions.
“It’s nice when a club like Barcelona is following you but I just want to do well with Napoli to bring joy to the people of Naples.
“I’m super happy here because I have been reunited with feelings I’ve been missing for a long time.”
Reina admitted, though, that he cannot quite comprehend why his international colleague Valdes wants to leave Barca.
“It’s difficult to understand what his motives are but you have to respect them,” he mused.
“He can never be accused of a lack of professionalism at any time. He has given everything for Barca, he was won everything and – why not say it – has been the best goalkeeper in the history of Barca.
“If he ends up leaving, people should be grateful for what Victor has given to the club.”
