Revitalised Reina loving life at Napoli

The on-loan Liverpool shot-stopper believes he is “playing some of his best stuff” at the San Paolo and is enjoying living in the south of Italy

Napoli goalkeeper Pepe Reina is relishing a change of scenery after his close-season switch to the Serie A club.

The 31-year-old is at the San Paolo on a season-long loan from Liverpool and has played every minute of the club’s league campaign thus far, conceding just eight goals in 11 matches.

Reina’s form has helped Rafael Benitez’s side to second in the table, just three points behind league leaders Roma, and the keeper believes the change in scenery has done him the world of good.

He told Spanish radio station Cadena Cope: “I have been at Liverpool for a long time. But now I am happy here in Naples.

“I have a fresh outlook on the game and have been playing some of my best stuff. We are having a great championship.

“Am I surprised? Yes. The city is different from Liverpool – people do not respect your privacy, but they show their affection.

“We have a new coach, a new style and new players. I am happy at the moment, but I would be even happier if we won the league, Coppa Italia and Champions League!”

Reina has been linked with a switch to Barcelona at the end of the season, with the Catalan giants set to lose long-term goalkeeper Victor Valdes, who is out of contract in the summer.
