Sakho believes the best is yet to come at Liverpool

The French defender is confident that his form will improve over the course of the season, and also reveals a humorous nickname that has been bestowed upon him

Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho insists the best is yet to come from him at Anfield.

The Frenchman signed from Paris Saint-Germain on transfer deadline day and is yet to miss a game since moving to Merseyside.

But while Sakho is certain he will reach his peak while at Liverpool, he says he is still adapting to English football.

“I’m not yet at 100 per cent, I’m progressing with each match that we have,” he told the Mirror.

“When you arrive in a country you don’t know, you have to learn quickly about the differences in the game and have to get on and adapt yourself to the qualities of your teammates. I work every day at training sessions to progress and to achieve the highest level. It’s logical that I would improve.

“Over the course of matches, you hope to be able to adapt to and dominate with a different system. I don’t think it will be a problem for me.”

Sakho also revealed that Brendan Rodgers has given him the nickname ‘Killer’ and that he has driven on the wrong side of the road by accident since moving to England.

“It’s getting better as I learn the language, because I need to communicate, but there are still mistakes – I’ve found myself driving on the right once or twice!” he revealed.

“But I am learning. With the football, I am not experienced because it is different to France, but I listen hard to the instructions of the coach.

“It’s funny, he calls me ‘Killer’!”
