Premier League Team of the Week: Ozil impresses again & Manchester City stars take the plaudits

The Arsenal midfielder claimed three assists as the Gunners beat Stoke City, while Sergio Aguero, Vincent Kompany and Samir Nasri are all included for their derby heroics

The Premier League rained goals over the weekend, with a total of 29 strikes hitting the back of net.

Arsenal moved to the top of the table following their 3-1 win over Stoke City on Sunday, with Mesut Ozil the creative force. The Germany international had a hand in all three of his side’s goals and claimed the man of the match award in Goal‘s player ratings following a four-star showing.

In the big derby clash of the weekend, Manchester City took United apart at Eastlands as Manuel Pellegrini came out on top against David Moyes, with Sergio Aguero and Samir Nasri among the goalscorers for the hosts.

Vincent Kompany also proved a rock at the back for Pellegrini’s men, with the City skipper successfully marshalling Wayne Rooney and Danny Welbeck throughout, hardly giving United’s strikeforce a kick during the 90 minutes.

Belgium international Kompany is joined at centre-back by Dejan Lovren, with the Croatian proving to be the match winner in Southampton’s impressive 1-0 win over Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday as he rose highest to head home from a corner.

The goalkeeping spot in Goal’s Premier League team of the week is occupied by Cardiff City’s David Marshall, with the Scotland international in supreme form during his side’s last-gasp 1-0 defeat to Tottenham on Sunday.

Leighton Baines‘ free kick heroics for Everton against West Ham sees him nail down the left-back slot in Goal’s team, while Aston Villa right-back for the day Leandro Bacuna is in after his solid showing in the 1-0 win over Norwich.

West Brom midfielder Morgan Amalfitano occupies a wide berth on the right of Goal’s team of the week following his goal and assist in the 3-0 demolition of Sunderland, while Oscar, a goalscorer as Chelsea beat Fulham 2-0, also gets the nod.

Joining Aguero in attack to complete the team is France international Loic Remy, with the Newcastle striker in top form as he netted two goals in the 3-2 defeat to Hull City on Saturday.
