The Liverpool boss believes the Chelsea man brings pace and intelligence to his team, and praised the counterattacking goal he scored on his debut against Swansea

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is delighted with the start that loanee Victor Moses has made after joining on deadline day.

The 22-year-old Chelsea forward agreed a season-long loan deal at Anfield in a bid to get more first-team football and scored on his Liverpool debut against Swansea on Monday.

The Nigeria international’s all-round display impressed Rodgers, who identified his pace, which allowed him to capitalise on Jonjo Shelvey’s poor pass to race through and put Liverpool ahead, as a key asset.

“He had a couple of moments where you could see why we brought him in,” he told the club’s official website.

“He can take players on. He’s got a wee bit to go yet to get up to speed with the intensity; but his goal was terrific.

“We did a bit of work in the week on counter-attacks – we felt there would be moments in the game here when you’re not going to have the ball, but when you do get the ball can you flood forward?

“When we intercepted the pass he broke forward and it was an excellent finish. He is a really good player.”

Moses moved to Chelsea in 2012 after spending two years at Wigan Athletic, where his reputation blossomed.
