The midfielder could not hide his disappointment after the two sides played out an entertaining draw and says the Swans deserved to win the game

Jonjo Shelvey apologised to Swansea fans after his side’s 2-2 draw with Liverpool, claiming he “gifted” his former side a point at the Liberty Stadium.

The midfielder opened the scoring after just two minutes, but was to blame for Liverpool’s equaliser minutes later after a poor back pass was seized upon by Daniel Sturridge who calmly beat Michel Vorm to level the scores.

Shelvey was then involved again as the Reds took the lead, passing the ball straight to Victor Moses who proceeded to score a debut goal to put his side 2-1 up.

“I just want to say sorry to the Swansea fans for two bad mistakes to be honest, I sort of gifted Liverpool the draw really and I think we deserved more than that,” he told Sky Sports.

“Obviously it started tremendously to get the goal, but then two poor mistakes, but then we showed a bit of character to get on the ball.

“I will still be disappointed but that’s just what football’s is about.”

However, Shelvey did then play a part in Swansea’s equaliser, heading the ball down to Michu to make it 2-2 and complete the scoring, yet he still cut a dejected figure after the match.

“I didn’t really want to celebrate [after scoring], because obviously I was at Liverpool and have huge respect for the fans, but its hard to hide your emotions and then two minutes later you give them a goal,” he added.

“You just want to go to a hole where no-one can see you but football is about coming back, it’s happened to great players before

“It’s just a horrible feeling [giving the ball away for the goal] you don’t want to wish it on anyone, even you’re worst enemy.

“It was a bit of a relief [to assist the equaliser] but I still feel I’ve given Liverpool a draw, but it was a great game to play in and both sets of fans were superb.”
