Rodgers: Kolo Toure still has a lot to offer Liverpool

The Reds manager believes that the Ivory Coast international, whose move from Manchester City was made official on Tuesday, brings vital experience after Jamie Carragher’s exit

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers believes that Kolo Toure still has plenty to offer at the highest level.

The 32-year-old, who officially completed his free transfer from Manchester City on Tuesday, is the Reds boss’ oldest recruit since he arrived at Anfield last summer.

But Rodgers is confident that Toure will be more than up to the task as he enters what is predicted to be the final chapter of his glittering career.

“I saw him play a lot of games last year,” the Northern Irishman told Liverpool’s official website. “I saw him play at Aston Villa and in a lot of other games and I thought he was Manchester City’s best player.

“Losing someone like Jamie Carragher was going to leave a massive hole for us in terms of his experience.

“Kolo’s experience is going to be really important for us but not just that. He’s someone with a winning mentality,” Rodgers added of the two-time Premier League winner, who also has three FA Cup winner’s medals.

“There weren’t too many available who were better than Kolo Toure. He’s played with big clubs, he understands what a winning mentality is about.

“He’s a good man as well – he knows what the culture is like at a big club.”

Toure, who spent four years at City, was a member of the Arsenal side that went undefeated during the 2003-04 Premier League season.
