Ayre: Rodgers spotted Aspas a long time ago

The Liverpool managing director hails his manager’s transfer dealings as ‘fantastic’ after Spanish striker is unveiled as the Merseysiders’ third signing of the summer

Liverpool chief executive Ian Ayre has revealed Brendan Rodgers identified new signing Iago Aspas as a transfer target “a long time ago”.

Aspas becomes the third player to move to Anfield after completing a switch from Celta Vigo, following fellow new arrivals Kolo Toure and Luis Alberto to Merseyside.

And Ayre insists efforts will continue to further improve the options available to Rodgers this summer.

“It’s fantastic, the third signing of the summer and very early in the window,”  he told the club’s official website.

“He’s a great talent, one that Brendan identified a long time ago.

“The scouting network and everybody else have done a lot of hard work to get him here and I’m pleased that we’ve been able to get his signature and have him in the squad.

“There’s a lot of work going on, there’s certainly no shortage of that. Hopefully we’ll have some more success.”
