Ivanovic accepted Suarez apology

The Blues centre-back says that he was more bemused by the situation than angry but feels that the Liverpool forward’s 10-match suspension is logical

Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic has confirmed that he has accepted an apology from Liverpool striker Luis Suarez over the Uruguayan’s bite on him during their Premier League clash.

The Reds star sank his teeth into the Serbian during the two sides’ 2-2 draw on April 21, for which he has incurred a 10-match suspension, but swiftly sought to say sorry to his victim.

“When it happened I was surprised and angry,” Ivanovic reflected to Vecernje Novosti. “But after the game I calmed down and all was forgotten.

“We spoke on the phone, I accepted the apology and the police did not press charges.

“It was a really strange situation. Overnight I was everywhere because of what happened even though I was only a minor figure in it. For the first time, in the news, everything was about Ivanovic.”

The Liverpool hierarchy have been publicly angered by the length of Suarez’s ban but the Chelsea man feels that the decision was understandable.

“They took into account his past excesses and previous punishments,” Ivanovic noted. “They added everything up and reached seven games, plus the three he would have had for being sent off.”
