The Netherlands international insists he was only visiting the city on a family holiday, but hinted at potential interest in reuniting with Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool
Swansea goalkeeper Michel Vorm has denied claims that he is set to sign for Barcelona, insisting that he was only on holiday in the Spanish city – but added that a reunion with former boss Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool “would be special”.
The 29-year-old established himself under Rodgers last term and was seen in Spain, leading to rumours that he could replace the outgoing Victor Valdes. However, Vorm insists he was just visiting.
“It was just a family trip where I’ve just seen the hotel, the beach and the zoo. So no, I was not in Barcelona to sign a contract,” Vorm told Voetbal International.
“There’s not a single club that contacted my agent Wessel Weezenberg. When Valdes leaves, Barcelona have to do something. The same for Liverpool when Pepe Reina leaves.
“A reunion with Rodgers would be special. The collaboration was very good last season. But for now Pepe Reina is Liverpool’s first goalkeeper, and it is not an issue.”
With Premier League status all but confirmed for next season and the promise of European competition thanks to their Capital One Cup success, Swansea will be keen to keep hold of their first choice goalkeeper, and Vorm says he would only leave for a “real top club”.
He added: “Next summer Swansea will probably sell a few players. But no one inside the club told me that I’m that player. My name is often mentioned in relation to other clubs. It’s all speculation.
“I wonder what the goalkeeper carousel will bring, but I will swap Swansea only for a real top club in England or abroad.”
