Rodgers hopeful of early January signings at Liverpool

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has underlined his desire to make additions to his squad as early in the January transfer window as possible.

Birmingham confirmed on Friday that the Reds are holding talks over signing goalkeeper Jack Butland, while the Anfield outfit are close to securing Chelsea forward Daniel Sturridge and Blackpool winger Tom Ince.

And the Liverpool manager has confirmed he will be making signings in the upcoming window as he looks to improve on a disappointing start to the campaign.

“We’ll be able to make some additions in January to help the group,” Rodgers told reporters.

“I always remain optimistic because of the honesty of the players but we need to be more consistent.

“We’re hoping we’ll be able to do something pretty early on in January – and then we’ll see what else January can bring.”

Rodgers also revealed that Uruguayan forward Luis Suarez will be fit for Sunday’s clash with QPR, despite picking up an ankle injury during the Boxing Day defeat at Stoke.

“Luis will be fine,” he said. “He’s a real robust player and is very rarely in the treatment room.

“He’s been playing with a bad ankle for a couple of weeks and took a heavy knock the other night, but he’s fine.”
