Rodgers hints at January arrivals at Liverpool

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has hinted at the possibility of adding to his squad in the January transfer window.

The Reds were left with just two senior strikers following a disastrous final day of the summer window, in which Andy Carroll was loaned to West Ham whilst the Anfield outfit failed to secure a replacement.

With Fabio Borini ruled out due to a broken foot sustained on international duty, Rodgers has found himself short up top, but hopes to correct that in the near future.

“I’ve had good conversations with the owners and they understand where we are at as a team at the moment,” he told reporters.

“If we can get our best 11 players on the pitch then our team is comparable to any team in the league.”

Liverpool currently sit in 14th place in the Premier League, having gained just seven points from their opening six fixtures.

Granqvist ‘flattered’ by Liverpool interest

Genoa defender Andreas Granqvist has admitted he is “flattered” by the rumoured interest of Liverpool, but is happy in Italy.

The 27-year-old is no stranger to the Premier League having signed for Wigan in 2007 under then-boss Steve Bruce, though his stay was brief and unsuccessful.

After leaving the Latics, the defender impressed during his time at Dutch club Groningen before earning a move to Serie A last year.

Now Granqvist has said the prospect of moving to the Merseyside club is one that appeals to him because of its tradition and success.

“I’m happy and I love Genoa, but of course I’m flattered by the interest of the Reds,” Granqvist told Swedish publication Sportbladet.

“It’s a historic and successful club.”

The burly centre-back remained coy on the rumours linking him with a move to Anfield however, insisting he is focused solely on the national team and happy in Italy.

“It has gone very well for me and I have got much positive feedback in Italy,” Granqvist continued.

“I honestly don’t know much. I’m focused solely on the qualifying matches with the national team. We’ll see what happens in the future.”

Suarez responds to Fifa’s Jim Boyce’s ‘cheat’ claims

Liverpool forward Luis Suarez has responded angrily to the recent comments of Fifa vice-president Jim Boyce, claiming he just “wanted to get publicity”.

The Uruguayan forward was heavily criticised for his theatrical dive against Stoke, going down dramatically and in stages despite no contact from the nearby Steven N’Zonzi.

And Boyce was at the forefront of that criticism, labelling Suarez’s actions as “nothing less than cheating” and “a cancer within the game”.

“This guy [Boyce], I’ve no idea who he is,” an angry Suarez told Argentine radio.

“I don’t know why he has been talking about me. He certainly can’t be well-known and he wants to get publicity.”

Suarez, who played in Uruguay’s Friday night 3-0 loss against Argentina, is determined to let his football do the talking and has deflected the recent criticism.

“Let him carry on talking. My job is to play football and to try to do so in the best way possible,” he added.

“What he has said does not affect me. I am not interested in what he has to say. It’s been important to have the support of the Uruguayan FA and the people.

“I have lived through a lot in the past year, with people saying things about me, but I have continued playing and proving my job is what happens on the pitch.”
