Liverpool – Stoke City Betting Preview: Expect goals at both ends at Anfield

Liverpool are still looking for their first home win in the Premier League so far this season but after tough fixtures against both Manchester clubs and Arsenal they’ll fancy their chances against Stoke.

The 5-2 win at Norwich last time out in the league was a source of real encouragement that there are goals in this Brendan Rodgers team after all.

But the Reds will need to produce that sort of form at Anfield to really convince supporters they have turned the corner.

Liverpool are 47/100 (1.47) with Marathon Bet to pick up three points against the Potters on Sunday.

Stoke drew their first four Premier League games of the season and were then unlucky to lose late on at Chelsea in their last away game.

But Tony Pulis and his side – now including ex-Liverpool man Michael Owen – picked up their first win at home to Swansea last weekend to boost confidence going into this one and should prove tough opponents as ever.

Stoke are 73/10 (8.30) with Marathon Bet to beat Liverpool as they did at the Britannia Stadium last season and 69/20 (4.45) to repeat the Anfield draw they managed in the corresponding fixture earlier this year.

Liverpool failed to score in either league match last term – in fact there was just one goal between the two sides. As a result, it could be tempting to back under 2.5 goals at 99/100 (1.99).

But the truth is that this is a different Liverpool team under Rodgers and recent scores of 5-3 at Young Boys and 5-2 at Norwich indicate that they are attempting a more expansive game.

They’re certainly conceding goals – they’ve let in 12 this season in just six Premier League games and are still looking for that first clean sheet.

Stoke are a little more circumspect but ‘Both teams to score’ has still paid out in the majority of their matches this season and yet is available at 28/25 (2.12) here with Marathon Bet.

That’s the pick of the bets in this one. For the value bet, consider that Liverpool have let in nine league goals after the interval so far this season and conceded the last goal in five of their six league matches.

As a result, tip Stoke to score last against the odds at 53/20 (3.65) with Marathon Bet.
