Swansea City chairman Huw Jenkins admits the club are open to selling Liverpool target Wilfried Bony this summer.

Earlier this month, Goal exclusively revealed that the Reds are ready to submit an improved offer of €19 million for the Ivorian, although the Swans are looking to hold out for a fee in the region of €24m.

Bony arrived at the Liberty Stadium in a €15m deal from Vitesse last July and scored 16 goals in 34 Premier League appearances in his debut campaign.

“Wilfried Bony is a fantastic guy to have around the club. He was a great professional with us last season and he’s the same now,” Swansea chairman Jenkins told talkSPORT.

“If a club come in for him, a top Champions League club, and put the right offer on the table he knows full well we will speak to him about that.

“We are open like that. I think we have to be. As much as we want players to stay with us, we’ve also got to be realistic with where we’re at and try to make sure we continue to bring good players into the club.”

Harry Redknapp has insisted the reasons behind Loic Remy’s failed move to Liverpool cannot be for medical complications but is happy to have the striker stay at QPR.

Remy was expected to complete a €10 million move to Anfield this week, but Liverpool pulled the plug on the deal on Sunday with Brendan Rodgers vague as to the reasons behind that decision.

It is widely believed a problem was detected during Remy’s medical, with Rodgers saying only that the issue has “happened before” but Redknapp refuses to believe the switch fell through due to any physical issues.

“I just can’t believe it. I only know what I’ve seen and heard – I don’t see how he failed a medical, he had a stringent medical here, one at [Olympique de] Marseille, one at Newcastle, one at France.

“It’s not possible, you couldn’t find a fitter lad than he is, there must be another reason. They must have changed their mind or gone in a different direction.

“It’s disappointing for him, [but] from the club’s point of view we’ve got a great striker. He’s a good lad, good player [and a] good professional.

“Their loss is our gain. He’s a striker capable of 20 goals in the Premier League, [and] that’s we need now – for him to get 20 goals for QPR in the league.”

Raheem Sterling scored the only goal of the game as Liverpool defeated Olympiakos 1-0 in the International Champions Cup.

The winger struck after just five minutes of play at Soldier Field in Chicago, finishing coolly after latching onto a deflected strike from Daniel Sturridge.

The Reds were good value for their win, although Olympiakos were inches away from earning a point, with Gevorg Ghazaryan denied by the crossbar early in the second half with Brad Jones beaten.

Liverpool’s first match of the pre-season tournament in the US saw them start well, with a free kick in the fourth minute in a dangerous area, before they took the lead a minute later.

Sturridge’s attempt from distance deflected off an Olympiakos defender, and fell fortunately to Sterling, who tucked away past a helpless Balazs Megyeri.

The game began to open up later in the half, with Liverpool producing several fast counterattacks, with new signing Lukas Markovic involved.

Olympiakos had appeals for a penalty waved away in the 35th minute, as Javier Saviola earned a yellow card for simulation inside the area.

Moments later, Markovic showed elements of his class as he danced into the Olympiakos area, only to guide his curling right-footed shot too high for the top-right corner target.

Rodgers swung the changes at half-time, taking out Markovic, fellow signing Emre Can and Jose Enrique, and bringing in Joe Allen, Jack Robinson and Coutinho.

However, it was Olympiakos who should have struck first on return to the Soldier Field playing arena, as Ghazaryan’s shot was agonisingly denied by the woodwork.

Andreas Bouchalakis then had a gilt-edged chance to equalise, forcing a turnover deep in Liverpool’s defensive third, however he could not control his final touch around goalkeeper Jones as the chance dissipated.
