Origi cools talk of January switch to Liverpool

The 19-year-old had earlier suggested he would be keen to move to Merseyside in the New Year but now insists he will be professional for the remainder of his time with Lille

Divock Origi has moved to clarify previous comments about the possibility of bringing his move to Liverpool forward to January and reiterated his commitment to Lille this season.

On Thursday the Belgian striker – who was signed by the Reds in a €12.5 million (£10m) deal last summer but allowed to remain in Ligue 1 on loan – admitted he would not say no if both clubs agreed to let him move to Merseyside in January.

But the terms of the original agreement are believed to make this possibility difficult, and on Friday Origi took to Twitter to insist he will be professional for the remainder of his time with Lille.

Hi guys,I just wanted to clarify after today’s press reports that I will continue to give my all &100% for Lille over the coming months(1/2)

Liverpool sold top scorer Luis Suarez to Barcelona for £75 million in the summer have won just four of 14 matches in all competitions since Daniel Sturridge suffered a hamstring injury on international duty with England.

Origi, meanwhile, has netted five times in 16 appearances in all competitions for Lille, who currently languish in 14th in Ligue 1.

Origi wants Liverpool return in January

The Belgium international striker, who was loaned back to Lille after his summer transfer, says that he is in regular contract with Brendan Rodgers and would love to move early

Divock Origi says that he “would love to move to Liverpool sooner rather than later” if it is possible that he could cut short his loan spell with Lille.

The Belgium international moved to Anfield from the French side in the summer but was loaned back for the season as part of the deal.

Origi has impressed in Ligue 1 this season, scoring five goals already, and would like to head to Anfield when the transfer window reopens, with reports suggesting that the Reds’ struggles to get the likes of Mario Balotelli firing could prompt an early return for the Belgian.

“Maybe January, who knows? It is not me who makes the decisions but, if the club choose to let me go in January, I would go,” he told reporters.

“I would like to join Liverpool then. I said that I would stay for the whole season and I wish to remain honourable in that, of course, but, if there was a decision by the clubs, I would not say that I would not like to go to Liverpool in January.”

Liverpool have struggled for goals this season thanks to Luis Suarez’s departure for Barcelona and Daniel Sturridge’s injury problems and Origi cannot wait to play in the Premier League.

“Brendan Rodgers is in contact regularly. That makes me feel very good and wanted,” he added, “and, although I agreed to stay with Lille until the end of this season, if there was a chance of joining Liverpool sooner, I would take it.

“I would love to move to Liverpool sooner rather than later. I am here at Lille, it is fine, they are a good club and they have helped me but it is also frustrating. It is French football. I can’t wait to be playing in the Premier League because I can now see that it will suit me better.

“They have a team with a lot of talent, with a lot of good players and a very good coach but they have had a lot of injuries and this has not helped them.

“It is difficult when you do not have a player like Daniel Sturridge. I believe they just have to be more efficient but I also believe that it is only a matter of time before it comes.”

Liverpool have always been a dream, reveals Norway wonderkid Odegaard

The gifted youngster is being courted by some of Europe’s finest and has visited both Bayern and Dortmund, but the Premier League side have a special place in his heart

Stromsgodset wonderkid Martin Odegaard has revealed that he has always dreamed of playing for Liverpool.

The 15-year-old recently made his senior debut for Norway and is widely regarded as one of the most exciting talents around Europe.

He has been linked with clubs including Barcelona, Real Madrid, Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Juventus, Ajax and Bayern Munich over the past few months, but Liverpool remain the club of his dreams – although he is adamant he will choose the right place for his development when he leaves Stromsgodset.

“Liverpool have always been my dream club,” Odegaard told Sport Bild.

“But I will not let this affect my decision when I choose a new club. It’s all about finding the team that is best for me and for my development.

“That is not necessarily Liverpool.”

The attacking midfielder then went on to stress that the Bundesliga could be an interesting option for him, before revealing that he has already paid visits to Bayern and Borussia Dortmund.

“Yes, I can see myself play in the Bundesliga. The German league is very strong. I don’t really have a favourite team in Germany, but Bayern and Dortmund are the teams I am following. They have shown in the Champions League that they are among the best.

“I didn’t take part in training at Dortmund. We only talked and they showed me around. Jurgen Klopp explained how the club works, how Dortmund feel about me and what they can offer me.

“I trained with Bayern and Stuttgart youth teams for a few days. The level is a lot higher than at the Norwegian youth teams. There was a big difference.”

Odegaard has yet to make a final decision on where he will continue his career and he aims to visit a number of clubs over the next few months to get a good idea of which would suit him best.

“I haven’t really thought about my future yet. I will end the season here and then visit a number of clubs. I have not made a final decision yet, though.

“I don’t know what will happen in the future. Of course, it’s flattering when you hear that big clubs are after you, but I don’t think about it too often.”
