LFC Players at World Cup 2018- Round 2 & 3 update- Group Stages

We saw last week how Liverpool’s players performed in Round 1 of the World Cup– here’s how they did in Round 2 and 3.

Mo Salah:- After being unused against Uruguay, came back into the starting XI vs Russia and Saudi Arabia, but could not change Egypt’s fortunes. Was Man of the Match against Saudi Arabia.

Dejan Lovren:- Lovren played the 90 in Croatia’s win over Argentina, and had 20 minutes in Croatia’s final group game against Iceland. The Croats won all thee of their group games.

Roberto Firmino:- Had 22 minutes off the bench against Costa Rica and did not feature at all in their final group game against Serbia.

Marko Grujic and Simon Mignolet:- No playing time for them at all. Serbia missed out on the Round of 16, but Belgium advanced

Jordan Henderson:- 90 minutes against Panama, but did not play against Belgium.

Trent-Alexander Arnold:- Started and played 79 minutes in the final group game against Belgium

Sadio Mane:- Played 90 minutes in Senegal’s 2nd and 3rd group games. Captained them for the second, but handed over the reigns for the third to West Ham’s Cheikhou Kouyate, which the Teranga Lions lost to Colombia. Senegal were cruelly knocked out of the World Cup on the Fair Play Rule

First Round World Cup wrap- Salah unused, Lovren’s Croatia win

Here is how Liverpool’s players in action at the 2018 World Cup have performed so far. Will be updated to reflect other LFC player performances in the first round.

Mo Salah– the Egyptian was an unused substitute as his country went down 1-0 to Uruguay in their opener. It was also the first time that the South Americans had won their opener at a World Cup since 1970.

Dejan Lovren:- Lovren played the full 90 at centre back as Croatia won their group opener 2-0 against Nigeria in Kaliningrad

Roberto Firmino– Bobby was a second half substitute for Brazil, replacing Man City’s Gabriel Jesus, as the Seleccao drew 1-1 with Switzerland

Marko Grujic:- The Serbian didn’t feature in his side’s opener against Costa Rica, but they won 1-0 thanks to a fantastic free kick from Alexsandr Kolarov

Jordan Henderson:- Henderson started and played the 90 as England beat Tunisia.

Sadio Mane:- Captained Senegal and played the 90 as they stunned Poland 2-1.

Trent Alexander Arnold & Simon Mignolet:- Did not feature in their country’s games against Tunisia and Panama respectively.
