Fulham-Liverpool Betting Preview: Back the Reds to burst out of the blocks

Brendan Rodgers’ men travel to London looking to carry on their fine form against a struggling Cottagers side, with Hugh Wilson backing the Reds at half-time and full-time

Fulham face Liverpool in the Premier League on Wednesday night full of confidence after coming away from Old Trafford at the weekend with a draw.

Rene Meulensteen’s side soaked up huge amounts of pressure against the reigning champions but it looked like their efforts would yield no points until a late Darren Bent goal gave them a valuable share of the spoils.

Liverpool will also be on a high, though, after a stunning performance against Arsenal that has seen them cement a place in the top four.

The Reds have enjoyed playing against Fulham in recent years, winning the last three, scoring 11 and conceding only once.

Brendan Rodgers’ side are unbeaten in their last eight matches, winning six of those games scoring goals for fun. With Liverpool netting five against Arsenal at the weekend and scoring four against Everton the week before, it’s of little surprise to see price them at 4/9 (1.44) to beat Fulham again.

Despite the positive result against United, Fulham still haven’t won in their last six matches and sit at the bottom of the Premier League. Time is running out for Meulensteen, who, despite taking over only a few months ago, is under a huge amount of pressure. price them at 6/1 (7.00) to win. The same firm price the draw at 10/3 (4.33).

With Liverpool pushing for the Champions League places, they will see this match as a must-win game. The outright price of the Reds winning is too short to touch, but backing them to be winning at half-time and full-time at 10/11 (1.91) looks like a great option.

In Liverpool’s last eight wins in the Premier League this bet would have paid out in seven of those games. With Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez in sensational form at the moment, expect them to continue their fine run against Fulham.

Rodgers patient over Liverpool contract talks

The manager says he has heard “nothing whatsoever” regarding an extension to his deal, which expires in 2015, and hinted that Jordan Henderson could be offered new terms

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is remaining patient despite senior club officials staying quiet regarding a possible contract extension.

Liverpool are fourth in the Premier League after 25 matches this term, six points behind leaders Chelsea, as they continue to improve under the Northern Irishman’s tenure.

Rodgers has just under 17 months left on his current deal and so far he has heard nothing from the club’s owners regarding a potential prolonged spell in charge.

“[I have heard] nothing whatsoever. I have, after this year, one more year to go,” he told reporters.

“I have always said when I came I am very happy here and we’re just over halfway through that contract and it is not something that comes into my thinking.

“If I never get offered one I would give my life to the last day of that contract. In the meantime, until anyone says otherwise or wants to reward the staff or myself for our work, then we keep working as normal and see where it takes us.

“The option is for the club for the fourth year, but in all fairness there is a point next year where the club has to let me know whether they want to keep me on or not.

“I have regular contact with the owners and it is never mentioned. I talk more about players. My ambition is more for the club so I want the players tied up so we can keep the best players here and get players in.

“The club knows my feelings in that I love it here and I’ve started out on something I would want to hopefully – if I can progress and be good and everyone is happy – stay here and continue.

“If it’s not to be for the owners and they want a different direction at the end of it, I will have done my best.”

Rodgers highlighted the progress of Jordan Henderson, wh has become a key part of Liverpool’s midfield after initially struggling, and reiterated he could be in line for a new contract of his own in due course.

“The way he is working, we would want to secure his services,” Rodgers added. “He still has all his best years ahead of him and you can see his growth and development.

“He will want to get better and I’m sure it is in the interests of the club to tie him down. Jordan, tactically, is improving so much, and [Steven Gerrard] is in the zone just behind.”

Cazorla: Giroud as good as Suarez and Rooney

The Arsenal man considers his team-mate to be on par with the Liverpool star and Manchester United striker and reveals he nearly joined Real Madrid earlier in his career

Santi Cazorla has hailed the abilities of Arsenal team-mate Olivier Giroud, insisting he is as good as Luis Suarez and Wayne Rooney.

The France international started the season in blistering form, notching four goals in his first five games, but his return has dipped lately with just four goals in his last 13 outings.

However, Cazorla has faith in Giroud and puts him on par with the Liverpool and Manchester United strikers.

When asked by RMC how Giroud compares to Suarez and Rooney, Cazola replied: “For me, he is [at] the same level as the other strikers in the league.

“He is sturdy and can keep the ball. On the surface, he is effective, either with his feet or head. He is a little different from what is done in England, but he offers a lot.

“He is a great striker and has showed it all season, for Arsenal and France. He has improved to a high level and is getting better every year.”

Cazorla joined Arsenal in 2012, quickly becoming a key part of Arsene Wenger’s side, and he says he is delighted with his choice despite a failed move to Real Madrid earlier in his career.

He continued: “Both clubs [Barcelona and Real Madrid] are monuments of Spanish football. All players are dreaming about it. I had contact with Madrid a few years ago but a move could not be completed.

“On several occasions, it is fate that I have not been able to join one of these two clubs. But my career has developed well and I have no regrets.”
