Moses adapting to ‘massive’ club, says Rodgers

The Northern Irishman believes the winger is still learning to deal with the expectation levels at Anfield, but has no intention of terminating his loan early

Liverpool loanee Victor Moses is still adapting to life at a “massive” club, manager Brendan Rodgers believes.

The Nigeria international has started just six Premier League games since joining on loan from Chelsea, and was recently withdrawn at the interval of Liverpool’s 2-0 FA Cup win over Oldham Athletic following an under-par first-half display.

That led to talk that Rodgers may look to cut Moses’ stay on Merseyside short by sending him back to Chelsea, however the Northern Irishman has dismissed such speculation, saying the 23-year-old has reacted superbly to his disappointing performance against Oldham.

“There will be no cancelling the loan – Victor and I have spoken a couple of times this week and I explained my reasons for taking him off,” Rodgers told the Liverpool Echo.

“He has been excellent since then, I have seen a real marked difference in terms of his performance.

“It’s not easy when you come to a big club.

“You come from a really good club like Chelsea to a massive club like Liverpool where there is expectancy every day. For any player to go into a big club there is a big difference in terms of mentality.

“He’s a good kid and I’m delighted to have him here. I’ve got no doubt that over the course of time here he will show his talent – I still expect him to make a big contribution in the second half of the season.”

‘I am changing’ – Suarez aims to control temper

The striker says his attitude has improved after coming through a number of controversial incidents involving biting, diving and intentional handballs

Liverpool striker Luis Suarez says he is working hard to control his temper in light of a number of high-profile incidents that have stained his reputation.

The Uruguay international has been in remarkable form for Liverpool so far this season and claimed the Premier League Player of the Month award for December, following a run of 10 goals in seven games.

Suarez has been heavily criticised for diving and intentionally handling the ball, while the 26-year-old has been banned for several offences, including the biting of Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic and gesturing at Fulham fans.

But the Anfield hitman insists he has changed and learned how to manage his “desire and hunger” to win.

“My temperament, attitude, desire and hunger when I am on the pitch has always been like this and will continue to be this way, I now know I have to control it more,” Suarez told ESPN.

“About two weeks ago I had an open shot at goal and hit the post and it rebounded close to my hand and I was about to go for it and then I stopped.

“If the same thing had happened two months ago I would have gone for it. These things stay with me but I tell you I am changing.

“I am improving my attitude on the pitch because I know I was wrong in the past and I was creating an image of myself I know wasn’t me.”

Suarez is expected to be involved when Liverpool face Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium on January 12.

Stoke City-Liverpool Betting Preview: Super Suarez can shoot down Stoke

Brendan Rodgers’ side visit the Brittania Stadium this weekend and our tipster is backing the Reds’ in-form Uruguayan striker to find the net at least twice

After a disappointing festive period, Liverpool will look to get their Premier League title challenge back on track when they travel to the Brittania Stadium to take on Stoke City on Sunday afternoon.

Defeats against Manchester City and Chelsea respectively dented the Reds’ hopes of being crowned as champions come the end of the season, but Brendan Rodgers’ men have made a positive start to 2014 with wins over Hull City and Oldham Athletic.

Liverpool are strong favourites to claim another victory when they take on the Potters this weekend, with Betway offering just 13/20 (1.65) on an away win.

Stoke saw off Leicester City to progress to the fourth round of the FA Cup last weekend, but that result represented only their second win in seven matches so Mark Hughes will demand an improvement from his side ahead of this weekend’s clash.

The Potters are chalked up at 4/1 (5.0) with Betway to see off the Reds at Brittania Stadium, while the same firm go 13/5 (3.60) that both sides are forced to settle for a share of the spoils.

Mark Hughes’ men have lost just two home matches in all competitions thus far this term but Brendan Rodgers’ side, desperate to reignite their title challenge, represent a stiff test for the home side.

Liverpool may have won just one of their last five matches on the road – a 5-0 demolition of Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane last month – but it is worth noting that when the Reds have been on-song, they have won convincingly this term.

Indeed, each of Liverpool’s last 10 victories in all competitions has come by at least a two-goal margin and there is value to be had in backing a similar outcome this weekend.

The 33/20 (2.65) quote from Betway for Liverpool (-1) in the handicap market is certainly appealing here and is sure to be a popular selection with punters.

Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez will be hoping to add to his impressive goal tally against the Potters this weekend and is decent value to do so here.

The 26-year-old front man has netted at least two goals in four of his last eight matches and the juicy 3/1 (4.0) quote from Betway for Suarez to net twice at the Brittania Stadium appears to represent excellent value for punters this weekend.
