Liverpool 4-0 Fulham: Suarez at the double for rampant reds

Liverpool reiterated their top-four credentials with an impressive 4-0 victory over a despondent Fulham side in Saturday’s Premier League clash at Anfield.

Brendan Rodgers was looking for an immediate response to last weekend’s disappointing defeat at Arsenal, and the Ulsterman will have been pleased to see his side 3-0 at half time after a Fernando Amorebieta own goal was followed up by strikes from Martin Skrtel and Luis Suarez.

The Uruguayan doubled his tally after the break to round off what turned out to be a comfortable win over the west Londoners, who never posed any genuine threat to their hosts’ bid for three points.

‘Reina had an agreement with Barcelona’

The goalkeeper’s father Miguel has claimed the Spain international was set to join the Catalans in the summer but the move fell through when Victor Valdes opted to stay

On-loan Napoli goalkeeper Pepe Reina had agreed a deal to join Barcelona this summer before the move collapsed, according to the player’s father.

The Spain international, who began his career in Catalunya and made his senior debut for the club in 2000, was heavily linked with a return to Camp Nou during the summer before he moved to the Partenopei from Liverpool on a season-long deal.

Miguel Reina has now revealed his son had agreed terms to return to the Blaugrana earlier this year, but the move was ultimately scuppered when Victor Valdes – who is set to leave the club – opted to stay for another season.

“A few months ago Pepe was in talks with Barcelona. They had an agreement and he was all set to go,” he told Minuto 116.

“But in the end Victor Valdes did not leave. That’s why the transfer fell through.”

Barca have been linked with a host of goalkeepers since Valdes made clear his desire to join a new club, with Borussia Monchengladbach’s Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Celtic’s Fraser Forster and Manchester United shot-stopper David de Gea among those linked with a possible switch to Camp Nou.

Enrique could return against Fulham – Rodgers

The left-back has not played in the first team since the Reds’ win over Crystal Palace on October 5 due to a knee injury, but is in line to be included on Saturday

Liverpool defender Jose Enrique could make his return to action against Fulham on Saturday, coach Brendan Rodgers has revealed.

The Spaniard has not featured for the Reds since their 3-1 win over Crystal Palace on October 5 because of a knee problem.

However, Rodgers, whose side sit five points adrift of Premier League leaders Arsenal ahead of Fulham’s visit to Anfield, is hopeful that the 27-year-old full-back will be fit in time to face Martin Jol’s men.

“We’re just waiting on Jose,” Rodgers told the Liverpool Echo. “He has trained and his knee is much better so we’ll be hoping he will be available for the weekend.

“That’s something we’ll assess in the next 24 hours. It will be great to have Jose back.”

Enrique moved to Anfield in 2011 following a four-year spell with Newcastle United.
