Liverpool trio in doubt for Manchester United clash

Aly Cissokho, Joe Allen and Kolo Toure were all forced off during Liverpool’s 4-2 extra-time win over Notts County, and may miss Sunday’s clash with the Red Devils

Brendan Rodgers has suffered a triple injury blow as Liverpool prepare to take on Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday.

New signing Aly Cissokho, Joe Allen and Kolo Toure were all forced off with injuries during Tuesday’s 4-2 extra-time victory over Notts County in the Capital One Cup.

And Rodgers believes all three could now miss Sunday’s clash with the Red Devils.

“It was obviously disappointing with Cissokho getting injured early on,” he told reporters. “He was distraught coming off as you can imagine.

“Joe Allen we need to check but he has maybe tweaked his hamstring and Kolo Toure has overstretched his groin which doesn’t look so good, to be honest.”

Goals from Daniel Sturridge and Jordan Henderson eventually booked Liverpool’s place in the next round of the tournament after an enthralling clash with their League One opponents.

Rodgers: Liverpool might have lost to Notts County a year ago!

Liverpool 4-2 Notts County (aet): Injury-hit Reds sneak past League One outfit in extra time

Liverpool narrowly saw off Notts County with extra-time strikes from Daniel Sturridge and Jordan Henderson after the League One side put hearts in mouths by battling back from 2-0 down in the Capital One Cup clash.

Youngster Raheem Sterling gave Brendan Rodgers’s side a swift advantage by weaving his way through the County back line and firing home in the fourth minute.

That classy goal was followed up by Sturridge’s first, a powerful finish just before the half-hour, but the Reds took their feet off the pedal in the second half and were punished as Yoann Arquin and Adam Coombes (scoring his first senior goal) forced extra time.

Sturridge was on hand to get them back on track just before half-time in extra time, however, his shot poorly dealt with by keeper Bartosz Bialkowski and dribbling over the line.

Henderson then followed up with a driving run through the middle to score and book a place in the third round.
