Liverpool sign Sturridge from Chelsea

Liverpool have completed the signing of Daniel Sturridge from Chelsea for an undisclosed fee believed to be in the region of £12m.

The 23-year-old becomes the fourth signing of the Brendan Rodgers era, and could make his debut for the club in the Reds’ FA Cup Third Round tie against Mansfield on Sunday.

As exclusively revealed by Goal.com in July, Rodgers had made the England forward one of his top targets over the summer and has now finally got his man.

Sturridge, who had made just one league start for Chelsea this season, revealed his delight to have moved to a club as huge as Liverpool, and hopes to remain at Anfield for a long time.

“I am humbled and happy to be here,” Sturridge told the club’s official website.

“Brendan Rodgers said he sees me here for a long time – and I also see myself here for a long time. I’ve not signed here to play for a couple of years and then move on.

“I’ve signed to be here for as long as possible. It’s a humongous club – for me, one of the biggest in the world – and to have the fans and world-class players we have here is amazing.”

Borussia Dortmund consider move for on-loan Liverpool midfielder Sahin

Borussia Dortmund are interested in bringing Nuri Sahin, currently on loan from Real Madrid at Liverpool, back to the Signal Iduna Park – the club he left in 2011.

The Turkey international joined los Blancos after lifting the Bundesliga title with Dortmund, but struggled to establish himself in Jose Mourinho’s team.

He moved to Anfield on loan at the start of this season, but after showing early promise he has since found his playing time limited, dropping behind Jordan Henderson in the Reds’ pecking order.

Now the reigning German champions are pursuing the possibility of bringing Sahin back to Dortmund, the place where he began his career.

“Nuri is one of ours and we’re closely monitoring his situation,” Dortmund director Michael Zorc told Bild.

“The problem in Liverpool is he is not playing in his best position.

“We have previously said that we might make a move if he says he only wants to play at Dortmund. We have to remain realistic, though. Nothing has changed in that regard.”

Sahin has started just seven league matches for Liverpool, leading to speculation that Brendan Rodgers could pull the plug on Sahin’s stay at Anfield in January.
