Word on the Tweet: Ferdinand, Kompany & Zabaleta pick over the bones of Sunday’s action

The Premier League serving up a veritable feast of action on Sunday, with Manchester United’s derby game against Liverpool at Old Trafford and Arsenal’s clash with Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium to pick over, Twitter has been alive with talk over some of the more controversial decisions.

The weather also gets a knowing nod with the heavens opening and snow falling by the bucketload all over the country, which seems to have had an impact on both Rio Ferdinand and Phil Neville’s routine, while Joey Barton wishes a supposedly Newcastle-bound Loic Remy good luck.“School run was messy…my boys peppered me with snowballs the little thugs! Off to training! Happy camp the day after when you beat Lfc! “
Sounds as if Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand (pictured, right) can’t wait for the snow to go.

“If Kompanys tackle is a red card the game has gone, tackling is an art and it was a perfectly timed tackle “
Match of the Day pundit Robbie Savage believes Vincent Kompany did not deserve to see red during Manchester City’s 2-0 win over Arsenal.

“Great result and the whole team perfermance was great! Another 3 pts to move on to the next game! Well done boys.”
Manchester City full-back and all-round good egg Pablo Zabaleta sounds delighted with the result..

Ultimately I’m a defender: Appeal may work or not. I will never pull out of a challenge, as much as I will never intend to injury a player.
Captain Vincent Kompany pleads his case over his contentious red card against Arsene Wenger’s side.

“Thought Wilshere was Excellent and looked back to his best today! Good news for England!! #Player”
Norwich forward Anthony Pilkington believes Jack Wilshere’s impressive performance during the defeat at the Emirates bodes well for the national team.

“Today Its 9 months since I played a game but 2 day I’m back ! Thanks everyone for you’re support ! With out you I wouldn’t have made it… “
Manchester City striker John Guidetti sounds delighted to be back among the action after a long injury lay-off.

“Good luck to Loic in Newcastle. Don’t worry i’ve told him what to expect. Great guy. Perfect club for him #toonarmy”
Marseille midfielder Joey Barton (pictured, left) believes team-mate Loic Remy will enjoy turning out for his former Newcastle ahead of his proposed move.

Morning all just had a snow ball fight with my boy-sledges are out for after school what a day!
The weather has brought the kid out in 35-year-old Everton midfielder Phil Neville.

“Joe Allen is having a Walters… “
Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler sums up Joe Allen’s performance against Manchester United by comparing it to Stoke forward Jonathan Walters who bagged an own goal double and missed a penalty against Chelsea.

Van Persie hails ‘brilliant’ Welbeck as Manchester United see off Liverpool

Robin van Persie has hailed Danny Welbeck’s recent performances after the England striker guided Manchester United to a 2-1 victory over Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday.

The 22-year-old forward earned the man-of-the-match award after an impressive display and was a constant threat to the Liverpool goal, despite not scoring.

Welbeck played his part in the first goal of the game scored by Van Persie, setting up Patrice Evra’s cross for the Dutchman.

Van Persie’s effort was his 21st goal of the season as United maintained their lead over neighbours Manchester City and he was full of praise for his fellow forward.

Speaking to reporters after the game the Netherlands striker said: “Danny played really well. He was good in the combinations and played a big part in the first goal.

“A couple of times when we got the ball after they made a mistake he got in and I got in a couple of times.

“He has been brilliant. He is still young and has been really good in training as well.

“He has been working his socks off. He is a very positive guy. He loves to play football and did really well.”

Cartoon of the Day: Manchester in two-horse race for the title as Arsenal and Liverpool are left behind

The two Manchester clubs look set to battle it out for the Premier League title alone after their latest victories on Sunday.

First, Manchester United beat rivals Liverpool 2-1 at Old Trafford, despite a second half revival from Brendan Rodgers’ side, before Manchester City secured three points with a convincing 2-0 victory over Arsenal.

Roberto Mancini’s side may be seven points adrift of the leaders, but the performance at the Emirates Stadium indicated the title race is very much a two-horse race.

Chelsea may remain an outside bet after their convincing 4-0 victory over Stoke on Saturday, but the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool have been left flagging far behind.
