Juve want Suarez and RVP

It is understood that Juventus would ideally love to pair Van Persie and Suarez in a dream attack.

Whether either deal is pushed on remains to be seen, but Italian champions Juve are aiming big.

They have already made a firm move for Van Persie but, as with rival bidders Manchester City and Manchester United, have not been able to agree terms with Arsenal.

Sky Sports understands that Arsenal are standing firm over their valuation of the Dutch striker, who confirmed earlier this summer he did not wish to extend his contract, which has one year left.

Whilst Juve continue to work on a possible deal for Van Persie, they also have an interest in Suarez.

But it is understood that their interest in Suarez is long-standing and their ideal scenario was to sign both players but whether either deal can be done remains to be seen.

Despite his troubles last season, Suarez remains popular with the Anfield faithful and his performances underlined his quality.

Indeed Liverpool are hoping to agree a new deal with Suarez, who returned to pre-season training on Tuesday.

Laudrup – No cheap Allen deal

The 22-year-old has already been the subject of a bid from former Swans boss Brendan Rodgers – who is now in charge at Anfield.

Laudrup, though, has pointed to the fact that Liverpool spent £17million on Jordan Henderson last summer, and he feels that Allen should cost more.

“He is worth a lot of money because he’s a good player,” said Laudrup.

“The manager knows him and knows if he wants to change the way Liverpool play he needs a player in the midfield like Joe Allen.

“But he also knows he’s very, very expensive. We saw they bought a couple of midfielders in the last few years for a lot of money, but with all due respect Joe is on a level above.

“In my opinion, if one is worth £17m then Joe is worth more, perhaps over £20million. I’m talking as a football man not as a chairman but if the chairman asks my advice then I will tell him the same.”

Exchange

It is understood the offer Swansea rejected last month included Jonjo Shelvey moving on a season-long loan to the Liberty.

But Laudrup says he will not accept an offer that includes a player not considered first-choice at Anfield.

When asked about the possibility of an exchange, he said: “If we could have (Luis) Suarez … We have good players here and they have good players, but I can’t see a player not in the starting 11 at Liverpool being in the starting 11 in our team.

“They might want to do it because they can pay less money.”

While Allen continues to be linked with Liverpool, Laudrup is still looking to strengthen his squad, and the Dane says he is closing in on two more additions, believed to be a striker and a winger.

“One is quite close but the other one is more difficult,” he said.

“But I hope he will be an important player for us. He is playing at quite a big club so it’s not that easy. They are both offensive players. One can defend as well.

“We are also working on other alternatives.”

Laudrup plans Allen talks

Allen, 22, has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool, where he would be reunited with former Swans boss Brendan Rodgers.

It is understood Swansea have rejected an offer of £12.5million, which included loaning Reds midfielder Jonjo Shelvey this season.

However, there is believed to be a clause in Allen’s contract that would leave the Welsh club obligated to accept a bid of £15million.

Laudrup met Allen on Monday for the first time since taking over as manager in June, but they did not discuss a potential move to Anfield as the player has only just finished taking part in the Olympics with Team GB.

“Joe Allen showed up today at the training ground, he did not train but I had a small chat with him, but we did not touch the subject right now,” Laudrup explained.

“I did not think it was the proper moment, but we will have to talk about that with the player to see what he wants so we can say something official, otherwise the rumours will go on until August 31, which is not in anyone’s interest.

“On Wednesday he will be back in training with the other two guys who have been at the Olympics and then we will have some talks so it does not go on until the last day of the transfer window.”

Replacement

Laudrup is also focused on bringing in further reinforcements, having already signed Michu, Jonathan de Guzman and Chico Flores.

A striker and a winger are thought to be high on his list of priorities, and the former Barcelona midfielder said: “I have two players in mind for two positions, I can’t say more than that right now but at the moment that is my intention.

“If something happens to one of the regular starters like Joe Allen, if he leaves we would need to find a replacement but the best situation for us would be to have two players for each position.”

Aside from the speculation over Allen, defender Ashley Williams has also been linked with Liverpool, while Scott Sinclair and Neil Taylor have been mentioned as targets for Manchester City and Manchester United respectively.

But Laudrup was quick to alleviate fears that a plethora of Swansea’s best players could depart the Liberty Stadium before the end of August.

He said: “There is always rumour, one day it’s Joe Allen, one day it is Ashley, the next it’s Taylor or it’s Leon (Britton) or (Danny) Graham.

“It’s normal, you look at it as normal and it says we must be doing something good.

“But you need a competitive team to play in the Premier League so of course we will not sell all our best players because what is the point of being the best club in the Championship?”
