Daniel Sturridge choses Albion over Newcastle

Daniel Sturridge has chosen a move to West Bromwich Albion over Newcastle for “family reasons”, with the Birmingham born striker opting for a loan switch to the West Midlands outfit till the end of the season. Newcastle were seriously looking at landing Sturridge after failing in their pursuit of Nicolai Jorgensen, but the 28 year old has picked the Hawthorns as his next destination as he makes a last ditch attempt to make the English squad. Albion will cover the entirety of Sturridge’s wages- £120,000 a week, and will pay a loan fee, rumoured to be around the £2m mark. Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho, who recently left for Barcelona, both joined Liverpool in January 2013.

Sturridge has scored only three goals for Liverpool this season Continue reading

Klopp names Karius as No.1

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has named Lorius Karius as the Reds No.1 goalkeeper and has said that the 24 year old will be given an extended run under the sticks. Karius had made four league appearances for the Reds this season and was in goal for their thrilling 4-3 win over league leaders Man City at Anfield. He was also Klopp’s No.1 for all six of Liverpool’s Champions League group games as well as the recent FA Cup win over Everton, which saw Virgil van Dijk score on debut for the Reds.

From an admittedly small sample (he’s made only 4 PL appearances this season, as mentioned before), Karius has conceded more goals than saved shots. However, Liverpool are YET to lose a game this season when he’s been in goal.

Belgian keeper Simon Mignolet, who last played for the Reds against Burnley on New Year’s Day, has said that he will consider his future at Anfield, with one eye on the upcoming 2018 World Cup in Russia.
