Suarez pledges to help Liverpool youngsters

Luis Suarez has backed Liverpool’s youngsters to continue their rapid improvement and vowed to offer any assistance that they require.

The Uruguayan has been impressed by the likes of Raheem Sterling and Suso, among others, and understands that his role as a senior player is to support them.

“We’ve got a lot of quality youngsters here, such as Raheem; Suso showed what he could do the other day,” Suarez told the club’s official website.
“[Adam] Morgan has to keep taking his chance to feature more and more and [Jerome] Sinclair made his debut.”

But the Liverpool striker has urged the younger members of the Merseyside club not to rest on their laurels, instead to continue to work hard to impress and improve.

“They are all really good players and they are at Liverpool for a reason. The form that Raheem has been showing and Suso the other day, they are showing us that they want to help the team,” he continued.

“And we so-called experienced players are always there to help them so let’s hope that they continue to develop and don’t just stand still but continue to prove exactly why they are at Liverpool.”

Suarez believes that it is the role of the senior players in the side to educate, encourage and aid Liverpool’s youngsters.

“I think it should be us who are offering advice to them, telling what they are doing well, and not so well,” he declared, “but I think they do realise that they have to learn things from the older players.”

Liverpool – Udinese Preview: Reds aim to cement top spot in Group A

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is again without Martin Kelly (knee) and Lucas Leiva (thigh), with both expected to be out for at least another month. Joe Cole (hamstring) could be in line for his comeback after coming through a reserve game earlier this week.

Jose Enrique is a doubt for the match but could make the squad with Kelly also injured, otherwise Rodgers has no other injury or suspension problems.

The visiting side are likely to rest star striker Antonio Di Natale for the match with Matias Ranegie expected to lead the attack. Francesco Guidolin has a more or less full strength side to choose from.

  • The Reds have won eight and lost 10 out of their last 23 European games against Italian teams.
  • Liverpool have won three of their last four games in all competitions.
  • However, Liverpool are unbeaten in six European games, including all five under their new boss Brendan Rodgers.
  • Udinese have only one once against an English side, beating Tottenham in the 08-09 Uefa Cup.
  • The visit to Anfield will be Udinese’s 50th outing in the Uefa Cup and Europa League.
  • Udinese goalkeeper Daniele Padelli played for Liverpool in 2007 on loan from UC Sampdoria, making his only appearance for the club in a 2-2 draw at home against Charlton Athletic FC, with current Liverpool players Jamie Carragher, Daniel Agger and Steven Gerrard among Padelli’s team-mates that day.
  • Udinese have drawn four of their last five games in all competitions.

Liverpool left-back Enrique: I’ve been playing through the pain barrier

Liverpool defender Jose Enrique says he has been playing through the pain barrier for the Merseyside club this season as he struggles to shake off a troublesome knee problem.

The Spaniard has been left out of Brendan Rodgers’ starting XI in recent weeks and was criticised by his manager, who warned that he could be sold unless after raising questions over his attitude and desire to play for the club.

Enrique is thought to have picked up the injury prior to the Reds’ first game of the season against West Brom and, despite struggling through the last two months, the 26-year-old is hopeful that an injection will allow him to play pain free and prove his worth to Rodgers.

“I don’t know quite what the problem is but I have been playing with a lot of pain,” he told the clubs’s official website.

“I had an injection in my knee so hopefully that will settle it down and allow me to find my form again because it is difficult playing with pain.

“It is something behind my knee and I have had to be very careful with it. I’ve been trying to play with it but it is not 100 per cent.

“I felt it in training before the opening day of the season at West Brom and since then it has been very bad. Hopefully the injection will sort it out.

“Obviously with a new manager at the club you want to be at your best, but I want to play to help us climb up the table. I want to get back as soon as possible.”
